Lorraine K Altenburg, 89, of Mount Prospect for 62 years passed away on January 28, 2015. Lorraine Altenburg, daughter of Arthur and Edna Kruse of Des Plaines.  She is survived by her husband Walter (Bud), and children, Steven (Wanda) Altenburg, Douglas (Peg) Altenburg and Robin Berkheimer.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild on the way, spread across the US.

Lorraine worked for 25 years as an executive secretary for the Lutheran Home and Service  for the Aged in Arlington Heights until her retirement in 1986.  She volunteered for numerous years in support of various organizations such as St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Northwest Community Hospital for 25 years (retired at age 85), Sunburst Corvette Club, Blackhawk Valley Horseback Riding for the Handicapped, near and dear to her heart, the Special Olympics of Illinois.  She was an avid crossword puzzler. She received her first computer as a gift for her 75th birthday, she kept up with all of her family and many friends through e-mails and Facebook. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Visitation will be held at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central rd., at Northwest Hwy., Mt Prospect on Monday, February 2nd from 3 to 8 pm.  Services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 100 S. School St., Mt Prospect on Tuesday, February 3rd at 11 am, with visitation prior to the service from 10 am to 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Special Olympics of Illinois or a charity of your choice.
